SOGOG Leadership Meets New WHO Country Representative

The leadership of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Ghana (SOGOG) paid a courtesy call on Dr. Fiona Braka, the new WHO Country Representative for Ghana, to officially welcome her and explore areas of collaboration in line with SOGOG’s 5-year strategic plan.

The discussions centered on Ghana’s progress in reducing maternal mortality, ongoing efforts to scale up HPV vaccination, as well as improving screening and access to care for cervical cancer. Both teams reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening women’s health in Ghana.

Dr. Braka expressed appreciation for SOGOG’s longstanding advocacy and collaboration with WHO, highlighting the need to accelerate progress, particularly in light of the President of Ghana’s recent concerns about the high maternal mortality ratio. She welcomed the opportunity to deepen collaboration and committed to supporting future initiatives.

As part of the engagement, Dr. Braka graciously accepted SOGOG’s invitation to deliver the keynote address at the upcoming Annual General and Scientific Meeting (AGSM), scheduled for November at the Rock City Hotel.

The SOGOG delegation included:
• Dr. Ali Samba, President
• Dr. Promise E. Sefogah, General Secretary
• Dr. Ama K. Ghunney, Financial Secretary
• Dr. Grace Newman, Member, Finance Committee

The meeting concluded on a highly positive note, with both parties looking forward to strengthened partnerships that will advance maternal and reproductive health in Ghana.
