Membership

Full Member A medical doctor, who has completed a postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology and registered by the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana as a specialist is eligible for full membership. 


Responsibilities, Rights and Benefits of Full Members 

  • Abide by SOGOG constitution and adhere to the code of ethics in medical practice. 
  • Promote the objective of SOGOG
  • Elect and be elected as an executive member of SOGOG
  • Participate in all activities of SOGOG
  • Prompt payment of annual subscriptions fees and levies 
  • Enjoy all benefits and privileges accorded to members of SOGOG
  • Partake in the welfare scheme for members in relation to death and disability to be determined by SOGOG Council and General Assembly. 

Life Membership A full member may become a life member by paying a lump sum fee equivalent to 20 years subscription. A live member shall be exempt from paying subsequent annual membership fees while continuing to exercise his/her rights and obligations in the society during his/her lifetime. 


Senior Membership A full member shall become a senior member following nomination and approval by the executive council. S/he should have been active/financial member continuously for at least 10 years and is now retired from active service, or has attained the age of 70 years. Senior members are honored at the annual conference following the attainment of this status, and are exempt from payment of subsequent annual dues and registration fees at SOGOG conferences. 


Honorary Membership Honorary membership are men and women irrespective of their profession, who are not ordinarily eligible to be members of SOGOG but who have distinguished themselves in service to women and the newborn or the general public at large. Potential candidates are nominated and elected by SOGOG Council and approved by the General Assembly. Honorary members may attend SOGOG meetings and functions but cannot vote or be voted for at meetings. Honorary members are exempt from payment of annual subscription, but may make voluntary donations to the Society


Associate Membership Associate Members are Residents who have passed the Primary Fellowship examination of the West African College of Surgeons (Primary FWACS) or Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) or their equivalent and are in training institutions, provided they pay appropriate registration and subscription fees.
